In this CIR livestream, Amb. Derek Mitchell will lead a conversation on current events in Myanmar. As the US ambassador to Myanmar (2012-2016), Amb. Mitchell will respond to the recent crackdown in Myanmar, discuss prospects for Aung Suu Kyi, review the situation for the Rohingya, and frame Myanmar in a regional context. How, for instance, will the recent democratic disruption in Hong Kong ripple across the region? How can countries start to build back democratically? And what should an informed U.S. foreign policy response best be? Joining the conversation will be several voices on the ground in Myanmar.
